Jersey produced a dominant batting display before delivering a disciplined bowling performance to defeat Papua New Guinea by 172 runs in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League A at Nairobi Gymkhana Club Ground on Thursday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Jersey piled up 347 for five in 50 overs, powered by a magnificent 150 from Zak Tribe and an explosive, a word which may not clearly describe, the late contribution from Jonty Jenner who had 11 boundaries from 23 balls scoring a quick 72 runs before being caught after hitting the ball high enough for the keeper to grasp with a sigh of relief. His remarkable strike rate of more than 300 lifted Jersey well beyond the 300-run mark and left Papua New Guinea facing a daunting chase.

Tribe anchored the innings with 150 off 129 balls, striking 11 fours and five sixes. He built the foundation for Jersey’s commanding total alongside Josh Lawrenson, who scored 72 from 95 deliveries, while Asa Tribe added 23.
Papua New Guinea’s bowlers found it difficult to contain the scoring, with Alei Nao and Aue Oru claiming two wickets each, although Jersey maintained control throughout the innings.
In reply, Papua New Guinea lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to establish the partnerships needed to challenge the target. Kabua Morea top-scored with 40 from 35 balls, while Lega Siaka contributed 39 from 49 deliveries.
Jersey’s bowlers maintained the pressure, with Benjamin Ward taking five wickets for 49 runs in his 10 overs. Charles Perchard was also impressive, claiming two wickets for 22 runs from eight overs as Papua New Guinea’s innings fell short by 172 runs.
Tribe was named Player of the Match for his outstanding century, which set the tone for Jersey’s emphatic victory.
The result gives Jersey a significant boost in the Challenge League A campaign, while Papua New Guinea will look to regroup after facing their highest ever defeat as the competition continues in Nairobi.
